A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck the Eastern coast of Taiwan today during the morning rush hour. It is reported to be Taiwan’s strongest earthquake in nearly 25 years.
Buildings were damaged, and a small tsunami occurred. Tiles fell from older buildings in the capital, and debris fell from some construction sites. Schools evacuated students to sports fields. Train and subway services were suspended, and the national legislature also suffered damage.
All Taiwan staff are ok and safe. All ports are running normally except initially the Hualien port, which is located on the east coast. The wharf surface had some damage. However, the port authority has processed an engineering evaluation, and the port is now running normally.
